TWO teenagers who murdered their young friend by hitting him with a baseball bat have been detained for life.

Declan Robertson, 17, and Andrew Parfinowski, 18, were sent to a young offenders' institution at the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday for killing Brett Lodge.

Cameron McKail, 17, who was convicted of assaulting Brett was handed a one-year super-vision order.

The three defendants laid into their life-long friend on a path between the capital's Claverhouse Drive and Glendinning Crescent on July 1, 2011.

Temporary judge John Morris, QC, said: "There is no sentence I can impose that can bring back Brett Lodge or can compensate his family for their devastating loss."

The two boys were convicted of murder after a four-week trial last month.
