Two men were seriously injured when they were attacked by a group of seven men, some of whom were in fancy dress.

The victims, aged 31 and 33, were punched and kicked in the unprovoked attack in Glasgow city centre in the early hours of yesterday morning.

One of the suspects wore a green Robin Hood-type hat with a red feather at the left hand side, while another wore a Heidi-style blonde wig with plaits.

The two victims suffered lacerations to their heads and were taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary by ambulance. They were discharged following treatment.

Police have appealed for information about the attack, which happened on Renfield Street near the junction with Renfield Lane at around 3.15am yesterday.

Detective Constable David Copeland said: "This was an unprovoked attack on two men by a much larger group which has left the victims with serious injuries. This type of activity on what seems to be a night out cannot be tolerated.

"I am particularly keen to trace the driver of the hackney taxi who picked up five of the suspects - including the suspects in costume - from a taxi rank at Buchanan Street Bus Station at 03.46 hours.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact police at Stewart Street on 101. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

The seven suspects are described as white, Scottish, in their late 20s or early 30s, of medium build, with one man being of heavy build.

Four men wore dark tops and jeans, one was wearing a yellow T-shirt and another was wearing a white cardigan with dark sleeves. The last man was wearing a light-coloured T-shirt. The man wearing the Robin Hood hat was one of those dressed in dark clothing.
