A DRINK-driver jailed for killing a Scots student in the US has had his conviction overturned.

Peter Goldblatt is serving 25 years for driving into Emily Lewis while he was over the alcohol limit.

But an appeal court this week threw out his conviction of aggravated vehicular homicide on a technicality.

The incident happened in June 2010 at a children' summer camp near Echo Lake, New York State. Goldblatt's vehicle veered off the road and hit a group of seven camp counsellors.

Emily, 21, from Aberdeen, and fellow British camp worker, Dominic Hartley, 21, from Gloucestershire, both died.

A third British worker, Christopher Jones – who was 18 at the time – suffered minor injuries.

Goldblatt is serving a sentence of five to 15 years on related charges. Emily was the daughter of solicitor Paul and Marysia, a sheriff at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.
