A KILLER has been jailed for at least 19 years for murdering his wife by beating and strangling her.

Alan Humphrey, 56, punched, kicked, throttled and stamped on his wife. It was five days before 49-year-old Angela Humphrey's body was found at their home in Barmulloch, Glasgow, by her family.

The day after the killing Humphrey was drinking in a pub and boasting of the killing. However, he claimed in court he had been talking about his son Sean, who was murdered last year by Steven Ross, the son of Gordon Ross, who was an enforcer for Tam 'The Licensee' McGraw.

At the High Court in Glasgow judge Lady Rae sentenced Humphrey to life imprisonment and ordered him to serve at least 19 years before being eligible for parole.

She told him: "This was truly a very brutal and violent attack on a defenceless woman. You are a violent man and what is concerning is you have shown no remorse for what you did."

Humphrey has previous convictions for violence, including two High Court convictions and one at Crown Court in England.

Fourteen years ago at the High Court in Glasgow he stood trial accused of murdering police janitor Michael McManus, but the jury returned a not proven verdict after a four-day trial.

The attack on Mrs Humphrey was on February 21 at their flat. The cause of death was head and neck injuries.

Her body was found in her home after her daughters became concerned about not being able to contact her. Family members then broke into the flat.
