A WOMAN who left a childhood friend in a coma after she drove over the top of him while drunk behind the wheel has been jailed for two years.

Sharon Ball, 25, ran over Sean Clements, 24, when she was more than two-and-a-half times the legal drink drive limit.

Mr Clements, of Viewpark, Lanarkshire, had been sitting on a grass verge with friends when Ball's Peugeot 307 car left the road and slammed into them.

A crowd of horrified onlookers rushed to help and pulled the car to one side to rescue him.

Ball had earlier admitted being drunk at the wheel and striking Mr Clements and his friend Steven Millar with the car in July last year.

Yesterday she was jailed at Hamilton Sheriff Court and banned from driving for three years. Defence lawyer John Costello said: "She has a great deal of regret in this matter which is genuine."
