Writer admits drugs offence

A BAFTA award-winning children's writer has been jailed for a year after admitting importing cannabis worth almost £10,000.

Austin Low, 28, received the package, which had been disguised as a box of biscuits sent from the US.

It was intercepted by the UK Border Agency, and after bags of cannabis were found inside, they were removed and replaced with sugar for a controlled delivery to take place at Low's flat in Glasgow's west end.

Officers swooped after they received information the parcel had been opened, at the same time as Low was meant to be receiving an award at a ceremony a few miles away.
