Police in Aberdeen believe that two fires set deliberately in the early hours of Friday are connected.

The Scottish Fire & Rescue Service and Police Scotland received reports of a small fire on the landing of a block of residential flats at North Anderson Drive at about 1.20am

Emergency services were alerted to another fire 10 minutes later on the landing of a block of flats at Midstocket View.

No injuries were reported from either incident.

Inspector Jon Millar said: "Enquiries are at an early stage, however we believe these incidents are linked and I would appeal for anyone with information to contact police.

"Thankfully, no-one was injured and everyone accounted for, however I can't stress enough the dangers of starting fires within residential properties, you don't know how the situation will develop.

"It goes without saying that the consequences of such reckless behaviour could have fatal consequences. It won't be tolerated."
