A judge has dismissed suggestions a Scottish woman who plunged to death from a tenth-story Spanish balcony was murdered, local press has reported

An investigating magistrate made the call after a British man was interrogated following the fall of 27-year-old Kirsty Maxwell in Benidorm, according to the newspaper La Verdad.

The paper, which is based in Murcia, added that police are focusing their lines of inquiry on a possible accident or suicide.

The Herald:

Mrs Maxwell had been in Benidorm on a hen-do with 34 friends shortly after marrying her boyfriend Adam. La Verdad, citing police sources, said she fell at 8 am on Sunday having been partying since Saturday. She and her friends had returned to their apartment at 4am that morning. Two hours later Mrs Maxwell left the room dressed but barefoot, said La Verdad. Police are trying to trace her steps.

The Herald:

She later knocked on the door of the neighbouring apartment, which was opened by a 32-year-old UK national who was subsequently arrested for questioning before being released. It was from that apartment that she fell.
