Police are hunting a prisoner who went missing while being treated in hospital.

Jamie Roy, 24, who is on remand at Glasgow's Barlinnie Prison, was receiving treatment at Glasgow Royal Infirmary when he went missing at around 11pm on Wednesday.

Police are carrying out "extensive inquiries" to trace him and have asked anyone who knows where he is to contact them.

They advised people not to approach him, though he is not believed to be a risk to the general public.

Inspector Andrew Small said: "I would like to speak to anyone who is aware of Jamie Roy's whereabouts and would encourage them to contact police. We are searching areas in and around Glasgow as we believe at this time he is actively evading police.

"I would like to reassure the public that we are carrying out extensive inquiries and that Jamie Roy is not considered a danger to the general public, however please contact police via 101 if he is seen."

The missing man is described as around 6ft, with short dark hair and tattoos on both sides of his neck.

When he was last seen he was wearing red trousers, black socks and no shoes.

He is believed to have links to the north Glasgow areas such as Bishopbriggs.
