A MAN who stabbed a drinking companion to death was yesterday has been jailed for eight years.

Bertie Hall, 49, who was convicted of killing Terry Miller, 30, in a house in Whitburn, West Lothian, in December.

Sentencing Hall at the High Court in Glasgow, Judge Lady Scott said he must be monitored for three years after his release.

She said: “There has been an escalation in violence in your offending.

“I believe you pose a serious risk to the public.”

Hall was originally charged with murder, but was convicted by a jury of the reduced charge of culpable homicide after claiming he acted in self defence as he was trying to protect himself.
