A TEENAGER has gone on trial accused of killing a five-day-old baby by assaulting his mother when she was heavily pregnant.

Jack Butterworth, 18, is alleged to have attacked Katie Strawhorn in November last year. It is stated that Miss Strawhorn, 20, suffered “placental abruption”, resulting in baby son Lucas being born by emergency caesarean section.

The child was said to have so severely injured that he died five days later in hospital.

The evidence emerged as Mr Butterworth went on trial at the High Court in Glasgow charged with the culpable homicide of his baby son.

He denies the allegations.

The trial, before Judge Lord Ericht, continues.
