Anger at plans to scrap key statistics on schools

The Scottish Government has drawn up plans to scrap a raft of key education statistics, including the number of pupils excluded from school, teacher vacancies and take-up of free school meals.

The draft proposals are intended to save money and reduce the administrative burden on councils, but have sparked an angry reaction from academics, political parties, teaching unions and education campaigners.
