Fees assessment call

THE Scottish Government has come under pressure to assess the financial impact of independence on the country's universities.

Currently, Scottish universities can raise additional money by charging fees of up to £9000 a year to students from the rest of the UK.

However, under independence those students would become members of the EU and their fees would have to be paid for by the Scottish taxpayer.
