MAULIN Buch came from his home in Mumbai, India, to study at Glasgow University under the Fresh Talent initiative - which allowed him to work for two years after graduating.

However, with the scheme no longer in operation, the 28-year-old believes Scotland is a less desirable place for international students.

"It was a significant part of my decision to come to Scotland to study, along with the international reputation of Glasgow University," he said.

"I met fellow students in Glasgow who came from Bangladesh, China and Sri Lanka and many of them mentioned the post study work visa as an important part of their decision.

"International students are paying a lot of money in tuition fees and travelling a long way so not being able to work and develop your skills after graduating makes it difficult to justify the cost and effort."

After completing his Masters in Strategic Marketing at Glasgow University, Maulin secured a job with the Coatbridge-based international electronic component company Retronix, where he is currently a business development executive with responsibility for marketing For me the decision to come to Scotland was life-changing because it has opened up so many possibilities and allowed me to pursue my career and gain further valuable skills and experience.

"I feel Scotland is my home now and the skills I have learned at university and while working are now helping a Scottish business."
