Most Scots want ‘the mither tung’ taught in schools

For years the Scots tongue languished in language’s understairs cupboard, wheeled out once a year for a kitsch rendition of Tam O Shanter.

But after centuries in the doldrums, it seems Scots is finally making a comeback.

A majority of people would like to see Scots taught in schools, according to a new Government study, and almost the entire population claims to speak Scots some of the time.
