New teachers struggling to find jobs in other areas

Hopes that the dearth of jobs for newly-qualified teachers in Scotland would be eased by vacancies in neighbouring council areas have been dashed.

Last week The Herald revealed 90% of new teachers could not get a job in the council area where they trained.

Michael Russell, the Education Secretary, responded by highlighting the fact that a significant number preferred to seek employment elsewhere.
