The number of pupils in the independent sector has dropped by more than 2% since 2007 – with those at boarding school down 4.3% in the past two years alone.
There are now 31,357 pupils in the independent sector compared to 32,065 in 2007, according to a report by the Scottish Council of Independent Schools (SCIS). The number of boarding pupils has fallen from 3655 to 3496 since 2010.
