A NUMBER of private schools will keep their charitable status after an assessment by the sector's regulator.

Aberdeen Waldorf School, Craigholme School in Glasgow and Morrison's Academy in Crieff all passed the public benefit test carried out by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator.

The Edinburgh Merchant Company Education Board met the standards, as did St Mary's School in Melrose and Edinburgh Academy.

The regulator has been assessing the charitable status of Scotland's 40 fee-charging schools.
