PRIVATE schools are receiving a £10 million subsidy on their rates bills because they are charities.
The perk, which affects top institutions including Tony Blair's former school Fettes College in Edinburgh, has been branded "repugnant" by a leading education expert.
The organisations which run the schools do not have to pay income or corporation tax. It includes subsidies for non-domestic rates, saving schools huge sums, an investigation by the Sunday Herald found.
