Russell defends college cuts

CUTTING the revenue budget for colleges was a difficult decision, but the right thing to do, Scotland's Education Secretary has said.

Michael Russell told the Scottish Parliament's Education Committee that reforms and mergers will allow institutions to do more with less.

And he also called on colleges to use their combined reserves of £400 million of public money to fund re-organisation.
