A UNIVERSITY has unveiled the next phase of a multi-million pound investment programme.

The University of the West of Scotland (UWS), which has its headquarters in Paisley, is to spend £3.7 million on improvements as part of an overall commitment of £16m.

The move is part of the university's commitment to provide the highest standards of learning and teaching and produce highly employable graduates who are IT literate.

A number of areas stand to benefit from the new investment including a new international centre, the creation of a new research, enterprise and engagement hub and modern and flexible learning spaces.

In addition there will be a number of improvements to buildings, including a significant increase in spending on maintenance.

Professor Craig Mahoney, principal of UWS, said: "I am delighted to confirm the latest stage of our investment programme, enabling us to develop with confidence.

"As we seek to meet the key performance indicators outlined in our corporate strategy, the investment programme will support our ambitions to enable UWS to consolidate our position and to expand our unique brand across the UK and overseas.

"I am delighted the latest phase of our investment programme will heighten the pace of change and allow this fabulous institution to reach its full potential."

This announcement follows recent news of a £12 million investment in information services, phased over the next three years, with improvements being made across all campuses.
