A TEACHER who swindled more than £5000 from a trip fund at her primary school has agreed to be struck off.

Marion Anderson, 53, principal teacher at Muir Street Primary, Motherwell, Lanarkshire, spent more than two years embezzling the money.

In January last year she was given 180 hours' community service and a 12-month probation order after admitting embezzling £5180.66 "while in a position of trust".

The General Teaching Council For Scotland will hold a "removal with consent hearing" in Edinburgh next Tuesday where she is to be formally removed from the teaching register.

Ms Anderson, who would have been paid at least £40,000-a-year, was said by an insider to have fallen victim to "tragic personal circumstances".
