Teaching union at war over pay deal

SCOTLAND'S largest teaching union is facing an open rebellion from its members over the imposition of a pay freeze and a £45 million package of cuts.

Delegates at the annual general meeting of the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) in Perth said the union’s endorsement of the deal amounted to a “breach of trust”.

The accusation reflects anger among rank and file members of the EIS – the country’s largest teaching union – following the introduction last month of the two-year pay freeze and other cuts.
