Teaching union votes 80% in favour of strike action

EXTENSIVE school closures across Scotland now appear unavoidable after the country's second-largest teaching union voted to take strike action in an ongoing row over pensions.

The Scottish Secondary Teachers’ Association (SSTA) gave strong backing for industrial action, with 80% in favour after a ballot.

The move means the SSTA will join a mass walkout by more than two million public sector workers on November 30.
