Unions attack universities on job and course cut plans

COURSE cuts and job losses at universities across Scotland have been condemned by lecturers and students.

The UCU Scotland union, which represents academics, and student body NUS Scotland, said recent proposals were “ad hoc” and failed to take into account the traditional breadth of higher education.

The intervention came after The Herald revealed that Strathclyde University was planning to axe courses in music, education, geography and sociology.
