Unions slam scrapping of 'superteacher' qualification

TEACHING unions have condemned the scrapping of a groundbreaking scheme set up a decade ago to improve teaching standards.

The attack came after Michael Russell, the Education Secretary, scrapped the chartered teacher scheme, which increased pay in return for boosting skills.

Mr Russell told the Scottish Parliament the so-called "superteacher" scheme would be replaced with a new, Masters-level qualification.
