University job cuts under fire as £6m surplus revealed

A Scottish university which is making controversial cuts to academic jobs is forecasting a £6 million surplus, the Sunday Herald has learned.

Last month, the University of Glasgow announced plans to get rid of up to 80 staff across a range of faculties, blaming “immediate cost pressures”.

However, it has now emerged the institution is heading for a £6m surplus for the financial year 2009-10.
