So you've chosen your subjects and you're starting to think about the important exams that you'll have to sit, but have you decided what you want to do once you leave school?

Are you going to go to college or university? Are you going to undertake an apprenticeship, or maybe work abroad?

You don't have to make the big decision right away, but it helps to have smaller goals to work towards.

Think about your strengths and your ambitions - what do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Hobbies can be great for keeping the mind and body active, but may also reveal some things about yourself. If you enjoy playing football, maybe you'll grow up to become a professional football player. A keen animal lover might decide to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. If you find yourself mentoring and helping others, maybe teaching is your bag.

Remember, the best kind of job is one that doesn't feel like work - take your passion and make a career out of it if you can.

Try not to put too much pressure on yourself - you don't have to decide what you want to do for the rest of your life. Lots of people change careers two or three times throughout their lives because they find that they're interested in different things as they get older. Education is something that you can pick up at any point in the future if you want to pursue something new.

For now, think about what will make you happy and go for it!

Your future may seem far away, but remember what Gandhi had to say: 'The future depends on what you do today'. There's no time like the present!

Hopefully you're buzzing with ideas for your future, but don't forget one of the most important first steps: studying. Once you've got the grades, you can go off and do anything you please. But now is the time to knuckle down and show the examiners what you're really made of.
