COME rain, come shine, sunflowers are brightening up a former waste land as part of a new art initiative.

Yellowfield is a project designed to transform a brownfield site into ecologically productive land. It has sprung up in Gorbals, Glasgow, at a site behind the Alexander Greek Thomson church off Laurieston Road.

The project is being led by Strathclyde University and is supported by Green Glasgow 2015 and Glasgow City Council.

A total of 200 sunflower seedlings were planted in May and at the end of the year's growth, the plants will be removed from the site and destroyed.
