Well, it could be the Jubilee factor coming into play, according to Saga.
While it has long been believed grand national occasions featuring pomp and ceremony – such as royal weddings – can take the nation's thoughts off its collective woes by numbing the brain to the economic reality, Saga go so far as to claim the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations "lifted Britain's over-50s out of one of their worst depressions for years".
