POLICE Scotland has issued a warning over a toxic batch of ecstasy-like tablets following the death of a 16-year-old girl who fell ill at a house party in Midlothian.

The teenager was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary today[sat] after passing out during a party at a house in Newtongrange.

She died later in hospital.

The circumstances of the schoolgirl's death are still being investigated but tonight Police Scotland issued a warning to revellers over "Ecstasy-type" tablets known as Red Bugatti Veyron and Purple Ninja Turtle.

In a statement, the force said it believed the teenager "may have had access" to the tablets.

It added: "Anyone who has taken these tablets is urged to seek immediate medical attention. Furthermore, anyone who has access to any of these tablets is strongly urged not to take them.

"Police Scotland's message is clear. There is no safe illegal drug and no safe way to take illegal drugs.

"Anyone who has any information regarding these drugs is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800555111."
