AROUND 100,000 mothers in Scotland are living with cancer – including 14,000 with young or teenage children.

Macmillan Cancer Support’s analysis is based on a survey of 2,000 people across the UK.

It said an estimated 100,000 mothers and 70,000 fathers Scotland have the disease. It said, overall, there are 14,000 mothers and around 6,000 fathers with cancer in Scotland who have young or teenage children.

MacMillan released the figures ahead of the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning next Friday.

Mother of one, Hazel Orr, 50, from East Calder, West Lothian, who was diagnosed with breast cancer, said the charity’s nurses advised her to be open and honest with her young daughter Holly.
