Antidepressant increase

MORE than one in eight people living in Scotland were prescribed an antidepressant last year.

Figures showed 718,000 patients being given the drugs in 2011-12, an increase of nearly 50,000 on the previous year.

Official NHS data also revealed 7511 patients receiving medication for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in 2011-12, a surge of more than 7500.
