Blame ‘Glasgow effect’ for city’s chronic ill health – not deprivation

Reams of figures have been published showing the scale of Glasgow’s ills but still the question remains: why are the citizens so unhealthy?

The most obvious answer is there are higher levels of depri-vation, given poverty around the world is associated with illness, poor diet and addictions. The results of a new study, however, mean this can no longer be seen as the sole cause.
