The Scottish Tories said action was needed as figures showed GPs reporting 34 new cases in a week.
A total of 1084 cases have now been notified in Scotland this year, compared to 46 for the first eight months of 2011. Although the outbreak is affecting the whole of the UK, experts have admitted the attack rate appears to be higher north of the Border.
