Cases of Legionella near 100

ALMOST 100 people have now contracted Legionnaires' disease in the Edinburgh outbreak.

One further case was confirmed yesterday, with the victim described as having been unwell for "some days", Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon said.

It takes the total number of cases to 96, with 49 confirmed and 47 suspected cases. Two men have died, including labourer Robert Air, 56, since the outbreak began at the end of May.

Ms Sturgeon said: "Over recent days, as expected, we have not seen as many cases of Legionnaires' as we did at the peak of the outbreak, and this continues to offer reassurance that the outbreak remains under control."
