Diabetes linked to more than 4000 deaths in a year

Diabetes contributed to more than 4,000 deaths in Scotland in a year, official statistics have shown.

And the figure may just be the "tip of the iceberg", opposition parties warned.

Diabetes was the underlying cause of 730 deaths in Scotland in 2008 and contributed to a total of 4,052 deaths.
