SARA Pairman went missing from Gartnavel hospital on December 16, 2010.

She never returned to the hospital, and was found dead almost a month later in Dumbarton.

The 36-year-old had been receiving treatment at the hospital since November of the same year.

Despite an extensive search by police, she was not found until January 14 in the Dumbuck Quarry, 12 miles from where she was last seen.

Shahid Rafiq left Leverndale Hospital in Crookston in 2010, raising concern among the police, medical staff and his family as he needed weekly medication.

The restricted patient was on ground leave on December 20 when he failed to return to the psychiatric ward at the Crookston hospital.

Restricted patients are those who been through the courts and are subject to different sets of rules than patients who are unrestricted. When they go missing, police are immediately notified.

Police carried out an extensive search for the 33-year-old, asking the public to notify them if they knew of his whereabouts. It is unknown whether he was traced.

Another restricted patient, Steven Wilson, absconded from Leverndale hospital in 2012, after failing to return to the psychiatric ward on March 30.

The 47-year-old's departure raised concern among police and politicians, with Nicola Sturgeon issuing a warning to the public to contact police if they spotted him.

He was found by police in Ayrshire about two weeks later and returned to the hospital.

It is understood he previously disappeared from the State Hospital at Carstairs.
