Medical breakthrough as pigs’ DNA is decoded

An international team of scientists have decoded the DNA of the domestic pig, a development that may pave the way for new medical treatments for both pigs and humans.

The animals are already used in research into human conditions, ranging from obesity and heart disease to skin disorders, and it is hoped that unravelling the genome of the pig could provide further understanding of cardiovascular disease and gastrointestinal disorders.
