Neil under fire over staff crisis on children's wards

SCOTLAND'S Health Secretary Alex Neil is refusing to guarantee the future of children's wards across the country, opposition politicians have warned.

Mr Neil faced questions in the Scottish Parliament about paediatric care after The Herald revealed major gaps in core staff numbers.

Some health boards are operating with half the number of middle-grade doctors they need on children's wards, using locums or the good will of consultants to fill in gaps.
