Periods link to risk of cancer

Women who start their periods early or finish them late increase their risk of certain forms of breast cancer, research has shown.

Early menstruation and late menopause were both associated with a greater chance of developing lobular, rather than ductal, cancers.

Lobular breast cancer starts in the lobes where milk is produced. Ductal cancer affects the ducts that channel milk to the nipples.
