DOCTORS' regulators have launched a review into how they handle whistleblowers after critics said that medics who raise concerns about patient care have not been "appropriately supported".
The General Medical Council (GMC), which regulates all doctors who practice within the UK, has commissioned a review into how it deals with doctors who sound the alarm.
The review, which will be conducted by Sir Anthony Hooper, will examine how whistleblowers are treated by the GMC and how they can be best supported.
Niall Dickson, chief executive of the organisation, said: "Raising concerns is central to protecting patients and providing good medical care.
"We hope this review will be helpful."
