Work together, watchdog tells cash-strapped police forces

Scotland’s police watchdog has warned forces need to make fundamental changes and consider amalgamating or creating a single national force to cope with the challenges of the recession.

In his annual report, published yesterday, Bill Skelly, HM Inspector of Constabulary for Scotland, calls for forces to make significant alterations and work more closely together.

He said: “This is absolutely urgent.
