The debate

With 90% of patients on the UK's transplant waiting list in need of a kidney and only around 2700 transplants carried out each year, Kidney Research UK favours the introduction of an opt-out approach to organ donation.

Much more needs to be done to improve organ donation rates and we can learn from other European countries, such as Norway and Spain, whose organ donation rates have grown steadily over the past 10 years to twice that of the UK.
