WAITING times in the accident and emergency department of Scotland's new £842m hospital are improving, managers have promised.

Official figures show the South Glasgow University Hospital is still lagging behind other hospitals with 87% of patients dealt by A&E within four hours, compared to a target of 95%.

However, these figures reflect the week ending Sunday June 14. Robert Calderwood, chief executive of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, said last week almost 90% of patients were seen and treated in time.

The official data shows on average Scotland's A&Es are dealing with 92% of patients in line with the target - little change on recent weeks and still short of the Scottish Government's aim. Health Secretary Shona Robison said it is crucial that sustainable progress is made.
