Ten debut novelists from the UK, Ireland, America and New Zealand are on the shortlist from 400 entries for the 2014 Dundee International Book Prize.

The prize is a publishing deal with Cargo Publishing and £10,000.

The shortlist is: Some Things The English by Rachel Fenton, New Zealand; A Village Drowned by Sheena Lambert, Dublin; Under The Tamarind Tree by Rosaliene Bacchus, USA; The Open Arms Of The Sea by Jasper Dorgan, Wiltshire; The Dreaming by Suzy Norman, London; Out Like A Lion by Robin Martin, New York; Cats In A Pipe by Lora Hughes,Yorkshire; Ida by Amy Mason, Bristol; Sea Never Dry by Ben East, USA; and Daughters Of The House Of Love by Veronica Birch, West Country.

The winner will be announced in October.
