£16m in funding may pay for new police HQ

LONG-RUNNING plans for a new police headquarters in the west of Scotland have taken a major step forward following a grant from ministers.

Sources said the £16 million for a new office development in Glasgow's east end is expected to pave the way for the police base.

The site in Dalmarnock, near the epicentre of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, had been earmarked for a new headquarters for Strathclyde Police but the scheme was mothballed as details of the new Scottish-wide force are ironed out.
