1950s films get festival screening

FOUR digitally restored films by Norman McLaren are to be shown at this year's Edinburgh International Film Festival.

The "stereoscopic" films were first screened at the EIFF and the Festival of Britain in the early 1950s.

The films have been restored by the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), and are a "historic precursor" to modern 3D films, the festival said.

Now Is The Time from 1951, O Canada from 1952, Twirligig from 1952 and Around is Around from 1951 will be screened.

In addition to the stereoscopic films, EIFF will host a number of McLaren 2014 related screenings, events and panels, as well as the 25th anniversary of the McLaren Award for Best British Animation.
