200 workplaces targeted after Stockline ICL tragedy

NEARLY 200 workplaces, such as schools and hospitals, have been targeted for crucial safety work after the Stockline ICL factory explosion that claimed the lives of nine people and injured 45 more.

Farms and a Buddhist retreat are also among the premises where potentially lethal gas pipes and fuel tanks have been made safe after the disaster in Maryhill, Glasgow, in 2004.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) was criticised during a public inquiry into the explosion, with "serious weaknesses" in inspections contributing to the "avoidable disaster".
