2,000 chickens die in farm blaze

Around 2,000 chickens have died in a fire at a farm.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was called to the blaze at a chicken farm in the Brodie area of Forres, Moray, at about 6.50pm yesterday.

The birds were in a farm building that was "well alight" when crews arrived.

Firefighters were able to bring the flames under control before they reached propane cylinders in the building.

A fire service spokeswoman said: "Sadly, all the birds died during the incident."
